Ron Kavanaugh

Born and raised in the Bronx NY, Ron Kavanaugh is the executive director of the Literary Freedom Project and has served his community for many years. He attended NYC public schools including Brooklyn Technical High School, and Monroe College in the Bronx.

 

In 1996, he launched MosaicBooks.com, the first site dedicated to showcasing books by African-American writers. Then a pioneering endeavor, MosaicBooks.com remains one of the most important sites for authors and publishers looking to showcase books online.

 

As director of marketing and public programs at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, 2001-2005, he contributed to the success of many programs and exhibitions including One Planet under a Groove: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art and the annual exhibition AIM: Artist in the Marketplace. From 2005-06, he served as director of the Bronx Writers Center, a program of the Bronx Council on the Arts, where he managed several programs including literary awards and contests, youth and adult programs, and workshops. In 2007, he left his full-time position with BCA to concentrate on the Literary Freedom Project’s development.

 

Ron founded and edits the quarterly print publication Mosaic Literary Magazine. Mosaic serves as an important and unique critical resource for readers and writers interested in honest and thorough writing and book reviews.
